San Juan, Puerto Rico — Saturday, May 31, 2025 — Fundación Camino al Plato proudly awarded twelve new full scholarships to attend private academic baseball and softball academies in Puerto Rico, celebrated eight continuing scholarship recipients, and honored its graduating scholarship students during an impactful event at the historic Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan. Scholarship recipients and their families gathered for a full media day and meet-and-greet with the Foundation team, where they connected, shared their experiences, and participated in a commemorative group photo to mark this special moment.
To date, Fundación Camino al Plato has awarded 35 scholarships to outstanding student-athletes across Puerto Rico.
Camino Al Plato’s founder, Thomas Axon, commented, “Today marks a pivotal date for many families on the island. The future here lies with our youth and their access to superior mentorship and educational opportunities. Enabling children from disadvantaged backgrounds to elevate their lives by giving them a unique opportunity to obtain a solid education and to develop essential lifelong teamwork, communication, and leadership skills through their participation on elite baseball and softball teams at top academies is very dear to our hearts. We are proud to contribute to the future of Puerto Rico. Congratulations to our new class of students, continuing students, and graduates.”

The Foundation’s eight continuing scholarship recipients are:

Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy Yanciel Cruz, Sebastian Báez
Leadership Christian Academy Alan Gippson, Jeddriel Villegas, Dariel Alvarado
Graduating honorees include: Pablo Vargas, Joey Rosa, Kevin Natal and Jorge Díaz (Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy); and Gustavo Meléndez, Orlando Cruz, Ryan López, Christian Rolón, Dylan Díaz, Josnel Ortiz, Franky Mangual, Ryan Torres, Arnaldo Rodriguez, Erick Rodriguez and Eriel González (Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School).
Since its establishment in 2023, Fundación Camino al Plato has been a driving force in advancing sports and education across Puerto Rico. Through free baseball clinics, expanded outreach in the softball community, and the sponsorship of high-profile tournaments like DIBAT and Prime 40, the Foundation works tirelessly to nurture athletic talent and provide meaningful opportunities for young athletes.
All initiatives and scholarships are made possible thanks to the generosity and vision of founder Thomas Axon, whose passion for baseball and unwavering commitment to Puerto Rican youth ensure that every dollar raised goes directly toward helping students, with all operational expenses covered personally by Mr. Axon.
